Council votes to dismiss manager

ONANCOCK -- The Town Council here in a Friday [November 14, 2008] evening emergency session voted unanimously to fire town manager Susan Scott, after splitting 3-3 on the same motion just two days earlier.

Corps now receptive to Nassawadox Creek dredging

EASTVILLE -- Just weeks after a volunteer team composed of nearby residents, Coast Guard Auxiliary, Virginia's Eastern Shorekeeper, local legislators and others dredged a navigable channel at the mouth of Nassawadox Creek, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has contacted county officials to proceed with a long-underfunded federal channel project at the same location.

Town seeks public input on school bicycle safety

CHINCOTEAGUE -- The town wants public input on how to make walking and bicycling safer for children attending school here.

In Exmore, Gilsdorf resigns in wake of disagreement

EXMORE -- The town manager here has notified elected officials that he will resign his position by the end of the month.

Christmas Parade still seeking entries

CHINCOTEAGUE -- The Chincoteague Chamber of Commerce, Town of Chincoteague and the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company invite the public to participate in the 2008 annual Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 6.

AARP Driver Safety Class Dec. 6

ONANCOCK -- An AARP Driver Safety Class will be held Dec. 6 at The Hermitage, Onancock, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

67 address Bay Act expansion to seaside

PARKSLEY -- Accomack County officials Wednesday [November 12, 2008] put off voting on a proposal to extend Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act regulations to the seaside after more than 300 people attended a public hearing, many of them from the Captain's Cove subdivision in northern Accomack.

News' Bank of Cheer drive begins

ACCOMAC -- The 48th Bank of Cheer fund drive began this week [November 12, 2008] at the Eastern Shore News with its sights set on raising $16,000 to help at least 200 needy families on the Eastern Shore.
