 | Area gets stimulus money for oyster restoration |
NASSAWADOX — The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
announced Tuesday the Virginia Seaside Bays Restoration project will
receive support from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to
support 55 jobs that will restore oyster reefs, scallops, and seagrass
beds on Virginia’s Eastern Shore.

 | Annual carnival opens tomorrow (7/2/09) |
CHINCOTEAGUE --The 84th annual Chincoteague Volunteer Fireman's
Carnival will open tomorrow, Thurs-day, July 2, at 7 p.m. It will be
open on Friday and Saturday, with fireworks at 10 p.m., and reopen July
10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31 and Aug. 1. It runs to 11
p.m. each day.

 | First case of swine flu on the Shore |
ACCOMAC -- The Eastern Shore of Virginia has had its first case of
swine flu in Accomack County. Director of the Eastern Shore Health
District Michael Margolius announced Thursday the district received the
laboratory report of a confirmed case of the H1N1 virus, commonly
called swine flu.
