County balks at railroad remedy

PARKSLEY -- The future of the float that carries railroad cars across the Chesapeake Bay from Cape Charles remains uncertain after Accomack County supervisors Wednesday put off deciding how they will answer Northampton County officials' request to join them in guaranteeing a $300,000 loan needed to help pay for repairs.

Accomack officials want more information before they decide whether to guarantee the loan -- including assurances that Bay Coast Railroad, the company that holds the railroad lease, will chip in money as well and commit to using the barge.
